Dan Ross was an oboist, professor, and entrepreneur. For approximately twenty years, Dan Ross would visit The University of South Florida to teach the many inner workings of creating reeds and playing the oboe. This day-long masterclass was open to the public and served as not only a valuable teaching tool for the oboe studio here USF and as an outreach program to bay area high school oboists. This masterclass quickly turned into an annual tradition that anticipated much excitement. Sadly this tradition was halted because of his passing in 2019.
Carrying on the Dan Ross Tradition will be much like the yearly masterclasses. The change will be that of Dan's dear friends and colleagues from around the United States; including Sherry Sylar (New York), oboist of The New York Philharmonic; Lisa Kozenko (Indiana), oboe professor at Ball State University, as well as Carlos Coelho (Texas), oboe and English horn repair master technician and the Loree representative of oboes and English horns. Each will bring their own unique perspectives and stories of this legend which will live up to not only the memory of Dan but his impact on the oboe community.
